About the Book

Greek Lessons, a novel by Han Kang.

The story of a brief encounter between a woman fading into silence as she loses her words, and a man reaching for light as he loses his sight.
To look closely into Greek Lessonsis to discover subtle signs and trace the faint marks they leave behind.
These barely emerging signs and traces gradually take shape—like a photograph in a darkroom becoming clearer in the developing solution—until they eventually coalesce into a story as ancient and enduring as an archaic script.
That story contains both the time of the past and the still-unfolding time of the present.
Through the novel, we come to witness a single scene where things that have long existed—their fleeting signs, traces that seem almost eternal, and all that they carry—gather together in one place.
